Wigan Album

From what I've picked up in my time here, numerous shops and houses on the front, and houses behind on Windleshaw and Delegarte Streets. Interesting to see that the houses between Banner Street and the Post Office, as was, were whitewashed at 1st floor level.

If the Black Diamond public house is to the left of this photograph. there was a row of terraced houses,and then a street that lead down to a club, I believe it was the British Legion. Further along there was a street that lead down to the Regal Cinema. There was also an an off licence on the corner of one of the streets.

At the extreme end of the shown buildings, between the street lamp and the telegraph pole, there was a coal yard. Railway wagons brought coal to the yard. The railway line crossed over Westwood Lane,and carried on towards the main railway.

Thanks to all for the info...but I still can't remember how the area looked. Its surprised me how quickly we can adapt to change and forget what once was.

Going towards Wigan from the Black Diamond there was a chippy, cant remember name, on the corner of Delegarte St was a grocers shop, cant remember name, then a row of terraced houses up to Windleshaw St, on the corner of Windleshaw St was Johnnie Tindalls shop I think it was an off licence come sweet shop, on opposite corner was a CO-OP or haberdashery shop cant remember name, then more terraced houses up to another chippy, then more houses up to a hairdressers Lois Harrisons I think and then Manley St.
