across the rd was uncle toms cabin pub and facing that was a shop called belchambers
By gum that brings back some good memories, Cath. There was also Bellchambers shop just further up the road from there that sold those delicous milk ice cream lollies. I've never tasted any ice cream since that matched Bellchambers.
Great tasting fish and chips from this shop, very well known around town.
Good pic catherine, a shop with proper Tizer ya can't buy that today.
were is or was leeds st
Sy - Leeds St runs between Clayton St and Miry Lane. Still there today, minus houses, sadly.
leeds st runs at the side of the blowing alley
The blowing alley???
Freudian slip???
I remember taking basins so the chips would soak up the pea wet. Never tasted chips as good since
I used to live a few doors away from nellie davies, the back yard was one big one that stretched from my nans (22) up to chippy. I used to go up and help do spuds sometimes, she was lovely and her chips were even BETTER, I lived at 20Miry Lane
I lived in manchester but my mother lived on snape street before getting married. I spent all my holidays on snape street,3, I love Wigan and still do. Good memories. Does anyone remember the tither brother, Pauline halliwell, Sandra Irvine.
Yes Pat I remember all the people you have mention and still see them at times
Hi Cathrine, I hope you are still in contact with some of these people. I have a photo of Pauline Halliwell when she was very young on a trip to the seaside with the Club. My grandparents lived on Snape Street number 3 Tom and Annie Stevens.
I lived in Snape Street when I was very young. Remember a dog called Monty. Also Belchambers shop.
I remember Belchambers shop on Miry lane, lived at no 24 Miry lane, my dad was born in Prescott Street, I remember Billy butchers shop, and the cabin pub with Annie Walker, brilliant memories
I am looking for a Nellie Davies in my family tree. Does anyone know her husband's name or children? Was Pauline Halliwell her niece?
Thanks
On Census 1939 my Great Grandfather Richard Stazicker lived at no. 10 Miry Lane. He was a Widow and there with his Children. One being my Grandma Martha (née Stazicker). I see at no. 16 Miry Lane a Nellie Davis born 5th August 1901 and her occupation was Chips Potato Fries. Kind regards Carolyne.
Richard Stazicker was my Grandad. Aunties and Uncles names....Martha, John, Mary, Thomas, My parents were James Stazicker and Ellen Stazicker (nee Horrobin). I was born in the parlour of 4 Miry Lane (previously 10 Miry Lane). My Godparents Marie and Leah Scott lived next door. Next door to them was Uncle Tom's Cabin. I remember the name Nellie Davis (chip shop). A lovely close-knit community.
