Yes Allan, this is where Park Rd.meets Woodhouse Lane, looking down Frog Lane.
Actualy, Derek, you are looking down Woodhouse lane towards Frog Lane
Could do with some sort of lamp post or roundabout there now. Springfield Corner must be one of the oddest junctions known to man. Which is the main road and which is the subsidiary, especially when approaching from Standish Lowere Ground ? Great picture of how it used to be. The Raj and Late Shop on the right, the houses long since gone.
Does anybody remember the police box (Tardis) that used to be in front of the outdoor license near the corner of Springfield Road?
Thanks for that info. I lived in the Beech Hill area for most of my adult life. I never realised (or must have forgotten) that Frog Lane didn't run up all the way to connect with Park Rd.
Horace - Park Road/Woodhouse Lane (B5375) is designated as the major road passing through this junction, but often a greater volume of traffic travels along the two stretches of Woodhouse Lane, in and out of town.
I regularly had to do point duty on this junction in the 1970's and 80's, when the Latics were at Springfield Park, and it could be an absolute swine.
Also the coldest place in England on a windy winter's day.
Before I forget - an excellent photo, Allan.
