I only came to live in Platt Bridge in 1971, and don't recall the shop or the cinema, although I recognise the buildings. These photos are brilliant. Thankyou.
Yes each village had a Cinema Irene, whatever the size of the place. You have to remember when these were built the wasn't any TVs. You'll remember the old Cinemas in Ince don't you...one in Higher and Lower Ince.
I remember The Doric, (known as The Bug!), in Higher Ince, but only just. It closed when I was a small child, but my brothers, many years my senior, knew it well, and also The Regal in Lower Ince.
The cinema in the picture is the Palace and many an happy hour as been spent in there
I think this cinema was owned a by a lady. Does anyone know anything about that, whether it is true or not I remember a lady walking with stick coming down the aisle at the matinee and everyone being respectful to her. Great Saturdays though!
The cinema was known as The Palace,Mrs or Miss Topping was either the Manageress or the owner.

the shop belong to kenyons kathleen went to moss lane school with me her dads name was alburt i for got her mothers name thay use to sell pies & TEA THERE
The drummer in front of the shop is Greg Richards and the Band Officer at the side of him is myself Cliff Goulden
