Apologies to those whose names I have forgotten - age has caught up with me! Perhaps others will fill the gaps. Hope you are all still fit and well. What would we give for schools like this now?
Hi Alan,
Remember me Graham Taylor, I can't find any pics of me in the 4th year. I must have been off school when they were taken.
The Linacre was a brilliant school, they should re-introduce the same format of teaching practical skills alongside the academic stuff. How many secondary schools teach you how to strip engines down or build boats or operate a blacksmiths forge.
Regards
Graham
HiGraham, I certainly do remember you. I hope you are well and enjoying the fruits of your labours at the Linacre.
Regards
Hi Alan, nice to see this photo all mine got thrown away. Hope you are keeping well. I am currently having a 3 month break in our caravan in Benidorm.I left England in the snow on 3rd January and it has been a quite pleasant sunny day today. A thermometer in one of the main streets was showing 19 degrees at 4.00pm.
I think the missing names are back row Woods not sure of 1st name. Middle row William Morris,Keith Pendlebury, David Bennett. Front row Brian Charnley & Geoffrey Derbyshire.
Hi Carl, Good to know you are alive, well and WARM. Thanks for the names, I should have known most of them. At the risk of sounding like my dad - seems like only yesterday.
Great picture! Have been spending some enforced bed-rest (recovering from unexpected surgery)looking through all the Linacre pictures and they've brought back many memories. Think I might use them in a book! I was in 5ET at the time of this picture and longing to leave school but remember many of the names and faces. My cousin Frank is the Ryding on the back row.
Hi Malcolm,
Of course!! I should have remembered Frank's name - I hope he has not read this and taken offence. I remember you as well; did you not embark on a career in journalism? - Happy days eh?
Regards
PS Hope your surgery was not of a serious nature.
Hi Alan. Thanks again. Surgery OK - now't dramatic. Yes, took up journalism: Wigan Observer; editing Leigh Journal, Wigan Journal and South Manchester Journal. Had five years casual work on the Daily Telegraph in Manchester and later returned to WO (via the Evening Post in Preston) and retired! Hope you're keeping well. Frank is fine. Lives in Eccleston and is still an avid Wigan Warriors fan.
