Again, another big sigh for days gone by,lovely Wallgate... my home patch, and isn't that Nelsons toffee shop I can just see,a man and his wife ran it,and I think it was the butchers next door, lovely happy days.
Great picture. I reckon in many ways we've gone backwards, not forwards. Today big is beautiful, that's caused the magic to drain from life. Very sad, but at least some of us knew those good times.
Way before my time and trying to locate this pic, is that Miry Lane behind the bus, looks like the Honda Building on the corner.
Yes Neil, that is the top of Miry Lane right behind the bus,and facing the bus on the other side is Trencherfield mill.
I reckon thats O'Gilvie's shop to the right of the bus. My grandparents used to live in Herbert Street, just off Miry Lane and I spent many an happy hour down there with Deb O'Gilvie and a few of her friends.
Yes, Neil, the garage behind the bus was at the Wallgate end of Miry lane and, at the time this picture was taken, it would still be Williams of Wigan, who were the main Ford dealers. The bus looks to be inbound from Abbey lakes with it's destination board already changed for the onward journey to Standish
