I have just looked at the last photos you have put on, and while they are nice, they dont have the impact of steam, and have you noticed, the amount of overhead cables spoiling nearly every shot of the railway that are being published on here lately.
I've often wondered why they don't power electric trains using induction. Pick-up Coils every so often between the lines. It would obviously cost a lot more, but would be less unsightly.
thanks for your comments aitch...i agree that steam shots are more pleasent ,,,,we live in the times we live in ....and by the way i enjoy all your pictures they are really great keep up the good work..
Im sorry if my remarks seemed condescending Tony, far from it you have put some blinders on, it just seems so unfair that no one seems to be able to take photos anywhere nowadays without something unsightly to spoil the effect.
It's great to hear both sides of the tale, and as outsiders who didn't work on trains, we appreciate both takes on pictures, the missus worked for North West Regional Railways for 4 years at Victoria in the nineties... Weren't old enough to remember Steam, but both show the contrast - Wonderful photos, Keep it up!!
this seems to be turning into anoraks album have you not got any pics of thomas or ivor
To the Bore... dont click on to railways, its simple!
Does anyone remember the special APT waiting room on Preston station? Think it is something to do with Virgin now.
i am not clicking on railways .no need to every other pic on the album is a choo choo
He has got a point. There's little difference in these photos from today.
Don't be dismissive of Bill's suggestion wrt induction coils. a little further development of the idea, and you get to the 300mph MagLev. Google up the 'Shanghai Maglev' and take a look!
APT-"P" (Prototype) not APT-"E" (Experimental) which was powered by (Leyland) Gas Trubine Engines - not overhead catenery as here !?!?
