It's 1959 and Stanier Class No 42574 waits for the signal to join the W.C.M.L. at the Northern end of the Whelley Loop Line.
Victoria Colliery, which was on Lurdin Lane can be seen in the background. This pit was closed in 1958 but the winding house and other pit buildings remained in use till the early 1990s.
Behind the trees to the right of the engine is now Standish Golf Club.
This part of the Loop Line is still walkable up to Standish Junction.

Winder, is this to the north or the south of the 20 Bridges?

A brilliant photograph... where do you find them!

Great photo. Train looks real enough to touch.

Billy, if you go to Album contents and click Work, then scroll down to Railways, you will find a photograph of Twenty Bridges on the photo's 101-120.
One of the posters even tells you how to get to it.
