Memories are flooding back................great photo.
I know we shouldn't be forever looking back, but I look at photo's like this one and just sigh with nostalgia.
Looking back alright Maureen, what can we look forward too...... ?
Not a lot John, except trying to appease and pander to other countries,I wonder, will youngsters look back at photos of their youth and feel nostalgic,I hope so but doubt it,I myself love all the latest technology but our lives were so simple then without it and better,at least that's what I personally think,or am I just longing for my own youth, makes you wonder doesn't it.
Nostalgia... thats what it is Maureen, we all had a great time in our youth, (some bad times aswell) but overall, it was nice.... so simple and clean.
do you all remember silcocks fair on the market square, fantastic. roll a penny, black peas waltzer, cocks, wish it was on tomorrow.
Yes I remember it well Josie, and you never got your feet muddy, because the floor as you can see is cobbled.
werent the gas showrooms located within the big building in the distance?
It was the gas showrooms, but was originaly Rushtons the grocers head ofice and warehouse
It Was Also Used By Pendlebury's When Their Store In Standishgate Burned Down In 1950'S
maureen dont think looking back is wrong thought that wigan was far more interesting and varied than the concrete rubbish put up in its place
Ah nostalgia, it ain't what it used to be ;)
Yes I remember those cobblestones well!! Us kids used to help Mum sell produce from our stall in all weathers on Saturdays. 1964 we left Standish for Adelaide Australia, so this photo brings back a lot of memories. Thankyou Anita
