The bridge carrying Warrington Road over the Branch was infilled in March 2005 in order to allow a 7.5 tonne weight restriction to be lifted. The track beneath was lifted, and accumulated debris removed before stone was pushed beneath the spans.

As a child in the early 70's, whenever we went over this bridge on the bus, there always seemed to be dozens of empty coal wagons on these tracks?

This Line was called the Crack Line that went from Spring Branch through the wagon works at Ince to Top Place, This was the supply line for N C B.I have walked this line many times as I was a fireman at the Branch My uncle Bob was the signal man at Ince crossing and at Bellgreen Lane box He would ride with the engine to operate the two signal box. He went on to become the Station Master at Leigh station

Can anyone tell me where exactly the Springs branch terminated? Was it at Kirkless works? You can see the scars of this line on the landscape on the satellite image.
