Every summer sunday, all through the 1950's my family and I would board a train at this platform and go for a full day at Southport Baths.
It may seem mundane and trivial by todays standards, but what absolutely fabulous times they were.
As the old song goes, "Where have all the Good Times Gone"!
This is 1955 and the train is bound for Liverpool Exchange
Your spot on Syd, In the 50s and 60s the real thrill of days out to Southport or Blackpool was to board a steam train. Our School summer holidays in the 60s were spent early mornings at Ince Station waiting to catch a train to Parbold, and then walk to Newburgh, and spend the day Pea picking for a few bob. Great times, great summers.
you had to catch the train early morning to get the cheap fare, called "workman return" the trouble was you arrived in Southport/Blackpool before the anywhere was open.
Fred and Colin, Great comments, I think most people reading this must think that we are from a different time zone!
The reality is that "WE ARE".
Great to share views from you guys, take care.
