I remember George as a "colourful" character, first do most things, smoking etc., he was a big Elvis fan, a good athlete and I believe "cut" a record as a singer.

George was the lead singer in the 'SPORTSMEN' the resident group at the Sportsmans Club. I remember him coming to work at John Englands Mail Order firm when it was at Rylands Mill, but, he was only there for a couple of weeks<g>

Strange as it may seem I recognise 3 at the very bottom of the photo who only have the top of their heads showing! Extreme right, Alan Taylor, next to him, ? Osborne and then, ? Price. At the Grammar everybody was referred by their surname, by the teachers. Could that also be Christopher (Tubby) Edwards, third row down first on the left, again with half his face cut off? Tubby later went on to become a don at Oxford University, mathematics was his subject.

George once received a caning in front of the whole school, his crime? He'd attended the Wigan 2 Newcastle United 3 cup re-play after we'd had a dire warning that we were not to go (it was a school day). Good for you George at least you had that memorable moment to cherish, the match not the caning.

I think I got fired, I was off sickand and a bloke named Grinley(Ithink) bubbled me he saw me in the Ball an Boot with my girlfriend, seem to remember we were Acc's supervisors,nice title.

Hi Cliff I left in 1966. I was the Stationery Buyer. I worked with Len Foster, who was Mr Isherwood's P.A. I had a desk outside his office. Are you the Cliff Higham from Greenough Street?

Hi Ron, it was Wednesday January 13th 1954, it was our first year at the Grammar, we could hear the roars at school and were convinced we'd won (no mobiles in those days) but of course George was there and saw "Wor" Jackie Milburn score the winner for the magpies.

Thanks Ron, I'd appreciate that if you get the chance. Just glad to know he's still around. We played in the same Lythgoe cup winning side of 1955 and of course we were in the same class. We even had a school boxing match against one another, George hit me so often he had to retire (injured hand) and I was declared the "winner" - I don't recommend that method to "win" anything. PS What do you mean SO old!!

Hi Ron, if George still can't recollect me may I suggest you remind him of an old flame, Maria Bate (Wigan Art School) and the record I lent her, Ray Charles "Georgia on my Mind" she said George had it!

Hi Cliff I met you a couple of years ago at a wiganworld meet up. My cousin is Tony Bennett. Other supervisors? who were there, Ronnie Berry, ?Schofield, Tommy Sharples, Alan Robinson, Brian Murphy, Norman Kinley, Brian Sudworth and of course the dreaded Cox and Grainger<g>

I remember now we met at the meet, oh and your right our arch enemies Cox, I had forgotten his name and yes Grainger! horrible man, I suppose they suited their position, I had some good times there with some nice people.

I recall Higham and Hunt at John Englands. Lazy loafers and slackers. Get em sacked. The only way. Cant make profits with with bone idle wasters.
