There were and still are plenty vehicles which come round that corner like that. It should be made one way the road is too narrow!
There'd be no bus routes in much of rural Britain if that was thought too narrow or steep! Take your bus pass for a ride on the Ambleside-Hawkshead-Coniston route 505 for a start....
Ah but that way they're used to the narrow windy roads and usually ( I say usually however have been on them roads and there are idiots there too)take extra care. My little KA struggles to get up Alma Hill I'm really not sure how a bus used to manage it!
The fact is restrictions were enforced because of the people who cared in the area in the 70's.The pictures show enough of the then and continued problems, these were published in the local newspapers of the day. Where the authorities sat up and took notice, one wonders if you need to wait for a child to be run over before you have a statistic to justify sorting a clear problem out. Please note one day in the seventies a coach ended up on the wall across from were these children are in the picture .Very lucky because one hour later and it may have been a different story.
I think I remember that Martin how you doing mate?
