Amazing!! It looks sooooo different now. I call it traffic-jam junction. Hahaha.
My great grandad on my mother's side, William Gregory (died 1940) was a regular here - walked from Hope Street Aspull, often after an 8 hour shift in the colliery and band practice!
My ancestor was married to William Gregory! Ellen ( Molyneux) Gregory.I have papers she wrote about him walking, but it says to a Hall.please contact me! Thank you
My ancestor George Edward Scarborough was landlord through the 1851 and 1861 censii. Anyone have an idea on the date of the photo?
Re. above post. It was Stephen Scarborough who was landlord (George Ed. was his son and a mining engineer)
A classmate of mine, I believe his name was Daniel, lived on the top floor when we were in primary school (St. Peter's CE, just down the road). Circa 1991-1992. I always remember how "cool" it was that he lived in the famous Bird 'ith Hand!
You should re-check your memory, Gareth.... My family were running the pub from 1988 - 1996 and I was the only child living there. My name isn't Daniel and I didn't attend St Peter's.
