I can remember u used to go downstairs to the record dept.
Rumbelows shop was originally Nimans, jewellers and fancy goods, My wife Edna worked there from leaving school in 1946 to 1955.The firm had another shop in Mesnes Street
And wasn't the shop opposite once called Bon Marche Fred ?
(Not the womens wear Bon Marche of today) I got my first pair of red leather tap shoes there.
I should have said the shop that is on the pic as Harris Carpets, then there was the Little Arcade ?
I remember when Sabrina came to Wigan she climbed out of the window over the Harris carpet shop. Standishgate was packed.
I worked for Harris carpets, 1980 - 1983.
I might have been there when this was taken!
Before Rumblows. It was Nimans jewellery/cut glass/hand bags and all manner of lovely gifts. I worked there and used to enjoy a pie across the road. Cow & heel pies yum yum
