Stairs below the clock tower.
These pictures are fantastic, having lived in Winstanley all my life it's really interesting to take a look in to the past history of the place.
Do you have a brother Derek who still lives locally?
My brother, Ray, passed away a few years ago. He carried on writing about local history after I left Wigan in 1980 and produced a book called Winstanley and Highfield: Further History - a follow up to Founded on Coal that we wrote together. He only made a few copies. I will try to see if I can scan it and post it - about 200 pages.
Are you related to Alistair? I have read a copy of "Founded on Coal", it's an excellent book.
It would be great if you could upload the 2nd instalment, an old friend of mine gave me a copy on CD, but I can't find it.
Sorry to hear about your brother.
Yip. Allister is one of Ray's lads.
I see Alistair nearly everyday, I used to live on Pine View when I was a nipper.
Do you have any photo's of Baxter Pit? I think I was about 6 years old when they took the pit head down and landscaped it all, it's all overgrown now.
Say Hi to Allistair. Sorry, I don't have photos of Baxters. Used to pick blackberries on Baxter tips.Good jam!
Hi Derek
Its sad that you lost your brother.
I also should like to read the history that he wrote.
Hello I'm Allister. I welcome the comments made and I would like to say a big 'HELLO' to anyone who knows me. I do have a copy of 'Founded on Coal'. If anyone wants to read the book then plese let me know. I am in the Winstanley and Highfield estate every day. It's not difficult to find me. Hello Uncle Derek !
Hi Allister! Can you go up Nicholsons Lane (see photo of stone sleeper on Clarke's railroad) and see if you can find any of them? Please send an e-mail.
