These are really interesting pics Derek. I didn't know anything about Winstanley Hall but now know that it was built by the Winstanley Family in abt the 1650's, they had been Lords of the Manor since abt 1252. The Hall is one of only 3 Tudor buildings in Wigan, a Scheduled Ancient Monument & Grade 2 Listed Building. I understand it was in reasonable repair up until the 60's when it was sold by the family, who couldn't afford the upkeep, to be converted into flats. Wigan Planners have consistantly refused permission & now it is as your pics show in a poor state....where is the sense in all this, what will become of a wonderful bit of Wigan history, can anyone tell me ?
How about us developing a message of disgust and need for action to Wigan Council?
Derek, I have already got Wigan Council's form for complaints & comments at the ready, ( you can't email them direct, more's the pity ) to ask about their appalling treatment of Winstanley Hall, I have also got the email address of the North West Region of English Heritage, they are interested to know if you have any concerns about the fate of buildings in your area..... I'll be busy this afternoon. I have read about online petitions, can that be done on WW ? I don't live in Wigan, I live a few hundred miles away but someone who is equally concerned about the Hall & lives in Wigan must be able to start something, I'll give them all my support. Come on, anyone out there want to take up the call ?
Hi Helen
Wigan councils have nothing to do with Winstanley Hall it belongs to DOBCREST HOME OF WIGAN
