What street was the original St James School on?
Pool Street Poolstock
Thanks, Gwendoline
Never knew where the original school was, only ever know it as being on Tyrer Ave. My little ones are at the the Sunday School so its good to see a picture from nearly 60 years earlier.
I can pick out a few lads on this photo-- Norman Knowles, David Payne, Alf McCoy. I love these old school photos. Lots of good memories of Poolstock C of E School.
Back row L-R Jim Woodcock (My husband who unfortunately died in July 2003 aged 59yrs)my father-in-law Len Woodcock owned the garage on poolstock lane at rear of number 44. 3rd left Alan Smith
Front row 2nd left Peter Lawrence (I think) and yes 2nd from right is Alf Mcoy...Note the lads wearing clogs.
I remember the garage very well as I worked with Kathleen,Jims sister at Jones & Parks in 1959
The school of course is Poolstock C of E School. St James' School was in Worsley Mesnes, and now is the Community Centre and a Mosque.
Although younger tham me, a few more names, David Jennions - John Cotton - Ken Stephens - Stan Heyes - ? Kelly - think but nor really sure 3rd left 2nd row is my sister Eveline. Has anyone a photo from my year?
Poolstock Cof E was on Pool Street in Poolstockat the rear of St James Chirch. The other school St James Poolstock was on Clifton Street where the community centre is now.
Can we get this right once and for all?
St James ' School was in Worsley Mesnes, Clifton St. The other school was in Pool St. which was in Poolstock, next to St James' Church, but this was POOLSTOCK C OF E SCHOOL and should not be referred to as St. James' School.
