Would love to know anything about Harry or if anybody can name any players in the photo.
A great photo but I was struggling to recognise any of these fresh faced young men, then I noticed this was Wigan's 3rd team, but obviously successful and no doubt a nursery for the senior team. However at that time the first team had the likes of Sharrock, Leytham, Todd, Miller, Thomas, Seeling and Ramsdale, great players who were all internationals. Chances to break into the first team would seem remote and from the records it appears that Harry didn't play for the first team and sadly lost his life in the Great War.
Keith many thanks for your comments most interesting.I have one more photo Wigan Maoris 1908-1909 Winners Intermediate cup. I shall post later today.
Harry Grimshaw's records show he was living in Yorkshire at the start of WW1.A newspaper scrap shows him in Rugby shirt. Most of the article is unreadable but states him to be regarded as the best at his club.
Is it possible he left Wigan to play in Yorkshire did this happen in 1913-14.
Regards Julian
