You haven`t changed a bit Lynn
Marlene who? I said that about Lynn
This photo is the first (I think) of two Europen Trips. I am 6th from the left on the bottom row.
The itinery was - School, Dover, Ostend, Ghent, Brussels, Namur, Luxenbourg, Strasbourg, Offenurg, Frieburg, Black Forest, Schaffhausen, Stein-am-Rhein, Constance, Mainz, Boppard, Koblenz, Luxenbourg, Bastogne, Brussels, Ostend, Dover, School.
The cost of the 15 day trip was £27. (A typical wage for a working man would be about £20 a week). We needed pocket money in addition.
Well done Neil for remembering the cost and the itinery. I was just looking at the coach and thinking how times have changed. Great trip.
Hi Hilary, I remember the trip(s) well. However I have missed something off the itinerary. On the first trip we went to Innsbruck after Constance then back to Mainz. On the second trip after Constance, we went to Berchtesgaden (and visited a salt mine) then Salzburg, then back via Munich to the Rhine. Interestingly (for me) I was in Stein-am-Rhein (on the Swiss-German border) 2 week's ago, with my family and I was boring them with fact that the last time was there it was nearly 50 years ago, can you believe it! (I also visited the Rhine Falls which are close by and which we also visited on the fantastic school trips.)
Thanks Neil for your response, I keep going on about the Rhine and the Lorelie Rock also Lucerne. My memories of school are superb my husband goes on about his bad schools and I tell him how fantastic mine was. I have lots of good memories.
Yes Hilary, I agree it was a fantastic time. I believe it was all due to the "New Headmaster" Dean Stockwell, who made radical changes from the previous school (Lamberhead Green and I think many others.) Not least among the changes was the banning of corporal punishment (except in exceptional circumstances). Many other changes were made such as "Houses" which all contributed to a "happy" enviroment. I owe a great debt of gratitude to Mr. Stockwell. By-the-way Hilary, were you in the House "Hillary"?
I bit late in responding Neil, but I was in Schwartzer not Hillary.
