lovely picture! don't suppose you have any taken further up towards Ince Bar? I lived near St. Williams and am trying to get photos of the area in the 50s and 60s.
Hello Irene...Although I lived just around the corner from St Williams church, I never took any photo's in Higher Ince. I friend of mine did though, i'll ask him if he's still got them.
My earliest memory of this church was going down from Belle Green School at easter everyone had to go to the service but they are fond memories.
Brings back a lot of memories my Gran lived in Laburnam Avenue (spencers).
I remember that too, Dave!
My parents were married there, as was I in 1966, and also my youngest daughter, a few years ago, so a good few memories myself. and I also had to make the trip down at easter, but only from Ince Central.
I too walked in the "crocodile" from Ince Central for the services, although Mr. Stoneley had refused to christen me as my Mam didn't go to church and I was actually christened a Methodist at Rose Bridge!
I dropped out of the choir because of Mr Stoneley. Surly character! One of the 'old school'
Irene I have a video of St Bills walking day about 1957 ish I'll bet your house is on it
How wonderful! Any chance of me borrowing it? I would love to see it even if our house isn't on, but I understand if you'd rather not lend it out.I would get my son to copy it to dvd.
I think my mum and dad got married at this church in 1936.
I lived at 35 Ince Green Lane, went to Ince Central and went to Ince Parish Church when Mr Stoneley was Vicar. Although he was very old school he got a new school built by going to London and banging on the table at the Ministry of Education, under him we also had the huge Ince Carnival and May Queens....
