The factory on the right was nod nod wink wink at the time.
This bridge got took down in 2003, i took my Grandad that day and we stood on the now new bridge and he told me tales when he was a lad when he used to dive off the pipe which is just behind this bridge in the picture,
Hi Rebian, he must have been a brave chap the canals not to deep there, the old pipe is still there today.
The lads from Worsely Hall treated this part of the canal as the swimming baths,we dove of the bridge and pipe all summer time, how lucky were we?
Hi Harold, walking past there today it's littered with shopping trollies, be alright landing on one of them.
The water level today is very low allowing good views of the wildlife ie Asda + B&Q Trolleys also an old motorbike as well as tyres etc. To be honest I cross the bridge everyday and never realised there was so much rubbish in the "Cut" here, actually it`s amazing that the barges can pass so many obstructions.
Before the concrete bridge in the picture the original footbribge was a timber one built to replace the swing bridge at towpath level the original narrowing of the canal can clearly still be seen.. This footbridge was locally known as the 'White Bridge' and I well remember all the swimmers in summer .
I worked in that brick building some,20 years ago doing William hares steel work
