Photo of a shop in Darlington Street East undergoing re-furbishment and revealing its prior existence as a Temperance Bar. It's very difficult to make out the old faded lettering but I think it looks something like "GALVINS" but I could be completely wrong. The number of the property is either 131 or 135 and I've not been able to find a reference to it in any of the old Wigan Directories.
Hi Keith, it was Galvin's Temperance Bar. Took a pic for photo a day (13th Feb 09).

Thank you for clearing that up Brian, hadn't realised you'd already submitted a previous photo.

Also a close up of shop sign in 'Shops Around Wigan' in 'Work' section of album.

I think that the father of Tom Whalley, who owned the pet shop, ran this temperance bar at one time.

It is 131 and the Monumental Mason's, my grandparents and father lived at 129 until the early 1960s.
