It had character, its own charm, like no other place.
As Pat said, with it's 'Charm and Character',Wigan was like no other place. I used to love that Little Arcade, all the Arcades and the Market, now all that is gone and Wigan could be anyplace. So sad !!
Great photos Dennis. Takes me back to my young days (a long time ago)
Keep sending them in
I can still hear the weighman at the bottom and see Syd Smith at his stall.
i agree, wigan was a wonderful town with plenty of character.thats the legs of man on the left, and there used to be a man with a mechanical weighing machine at the side of the pub .great photo cheers.
Gorner's Cafe at the bottom. I can smell their dinners now!!!Great photo bringing back lots of memories.
Barbara, still wondering if you were Barbara Kent who worked at Taylors Bridge.
there was a shop in the arcade that sold strings of toffee-bags and my mam used to buy me some of the three-cornered ones to play "shops" with.....they also sold LOOSE FIREWORKS in the autumn from a box outside the door...can you imagine that being allowed today?!
I'm not surprised you remember the Little Arcade Peter, I would have thought you were old enough to remember the Titanic going down !...naughty Robert !
Peter, you have forgotten the smell of Syd Smith's cigars..................memories !
where in market place was this arcade? and what is there today?
The Market Place entrance was roughly where the entrance to The Marketgate Arcade Shopping Centre stands now. It ran down to Woodcock Street and came out pretty much where Specsavers is now.
i used to work at gorners cafe good old days
