46229 DUCHESS OF HAMILTON.
I saw this loco on it's last preserved run before going back to the NRM for re streamlining. I had photographed it in the day and was not happy with the pictures so went back to Warrington Bank Quay in the evening. It was dark and the platform was loaded with enthusiasts. A young worker on the station came out and said that they may have to put the "steamer" (hate that term) on the back platform to make way for a "Flyer" This was one of Virgins vomit rockets, the Pendolino. The Pendolino arrived ahead of the Duchess and proceeded on. A few minutes later the Duchess came under the bridge, north of the station, breathing fire and spitting red hot ash out of the chimney. She was going well over the limit allotted to preserved steam. One of the characters on the station called to the young lad "Thats what you call a f****** flyer". I never forgot that and it can be seen on a video "The Royal Scot"
