Ron, was this colliery, later the Mains Colliery, or are they two distinct collieries?.
Albert sorry I've no idea. No doubt someone will know Watch this space<g>
Two different collieries, Albert, but close to one another, next door in fact. Bamfurlong Colliery was on the left hand side of the main road through Bamfurlong as you go towards Platt Bridge, Mains was on the right hand side.
Thank you, gentlemen.
3 collieries close together, left to right - Brynn Hall, Bamfurlong (both on left hìs of Bolton Rd, and Mains on rhs
All in all around a dozen collieries in Ashton-in-Makerfield in total
Chris Southworth. Chris, were you in one of the technical department, at Maypole Colliery?. Your name is familiar.
Hello Albert, I think you asked me this once before.I was a Surveyor at Golborne Colliery from 1971 till 1986. Then at Sutton Manor and Parkside till leaving the mining industry in 1988. I'm not 100% on this but you may be thinking about my uncle Gerald Southworth who was a mech engineer in the pits but I don't know if he worked at Maypole.
Thanks Chris. I am sure there was a Southworth at the Maypole, late forties, early fifties. He was on the engineering side.
