I have one of those washing machines for sale, well used but still in good working order, the guarantee has run out but is still capable of good service.
My Granny Bryson had all these 'gadgets ' for wash day. A Dolly tub (?) The wooden pole with 3 short legs for bashing the washing in the tub & a scrubbing board. Washday used to smell good & was good with meat & potoato pies for dinner.
My Mam had all of these 'appliances', I remember helping her on washing day, it was a full day of a job.
Allan, Thank you so much for all the wonderful photos you have put WW, they brought back so many many heartwarming memories for me and in reading all the many comments, for many more people also..
I remember helping but not in the Dolly tub massive washing machines but still with the wringers and I had the cleanest nappies on Darlington ST, cos washing day took all day on a monday.
In the early 60's I had a Servis washing machine with wringers. It took all morning to do the wash, even with the lid there were clouds of steam, washing all in piles on the kitchen floor. It had to be rinsed by hand & put back through the wringer. Then I got really modern & had a spin dryer ! Granny would have loved it !
