This was main weaving shed on ground floor later to become Dorma sheets, i have some pics on my blog of this weaving shed it ceased operating in late 80s, brings back good memories i spent 11yrs in there.
I remember during the war they used to make emergency petrol tanks for planes,They were made of layers of brown paper
when the material come off the looms and was washed to take the sizing out you had brilliant white sheets, i remember local taxi drivers asking us for offcuts when they had weddings booked and they worked perfectly, Dorma also had a staff shop we still have sheets from there and are still going strong, not bad after 20 plus years.
I worked in here in the early fifties - One weaver looked after 20 of these looms with the assistance of a battery filler.
I USED TO WORK 30 LOOMS LATER THE LOOMS WHERE CHANGED TO PICANOL LOOMS WHICH WERE A LOT FASTER
I worked at Eckersley's Mill when it belonged to Dorma between 1981 and 1987. I worked on the night shift on the Picanol looms with Unifils. I transferred to it's sister mill at Bradley Fold, Bolton and worked there till 1996.
Hi Alan,I Remember you well i also worked on nights with you, most of lads that worked with us have now passed on.
