Red Onion & Rosemary Sausages, I have a liking for all her products but these sausages are a big favourite with me. The Mrs thinks they are a bit on the dry side, but I really do like them. As you can probably tell I am getting into a more healthy eating style these days, although I will still try the odd pie or two. Sugar is out now for me, totally unnecessary to add this stuff to our food as most products are full of the stuff. Eat healthy and think healthy!

Calico Skies - the sixth song on Paul McCartney's 1997 album, Flaming Pie.

Your first post made me chuckle, Joseph, as I suspected some of it to be a bit tofu in cheek.

I rarely have sausage, but if I do they're of the vegetarian variety - Quorn/ Linda McCartney. I agree they can be dry (like parts of your first post?) but the serving suggestion of 'sausage, red onions & rosemary, with spring onion buttered mash potatoes and minted peas' certainly whets my appetite.

Linda McCarntey "Steak" pies were great but they seem to have disappeared.

Those ASDA "Meat"balls are good too especially in a nice curry sauce.

Replied: 10th Feb 2014 at 11:41

I must admit, Kath, I don't pay the attention I should to the salt content of foods.

Typical values per 100g (2 sausages): Salt 1.2g, of which Sodium 0.5g

Salt: the facts - NHS:

Adults should eat no more than 6g of salt a day – that's around one full teaspoon. Children should eat less.

Look at the figure for salt per 100g:

High is more than 1.5g salt per 100g (0.6g sodium) - may be colour-coded red.

Low is 0.3g salt or less per 100g (or 0.1g sodium) - may be colour-coded green.

Medium is between 0.3g and 1.5g per 100g - may be colour-coded amber.

As a rule, aim for foods that have a low or medium salt content. Leave high-salt foods for occasional use.

Example: Two 'Finny Haddy' thick cuts from Morrisons done in the oven in foil with a little unsalted butter and black pepper.

Two medium baked potatoes, baked for 2 hours.

A fresh cauliflower, boiled until medium/soft and chopped using unsalted butter and white pepper.

A bottle of Hock (Morrisons)

A meal for two: £ 10.

Enjoy.

We are having lamb's liver, dry-cured smoked bacon and onions cooked in Mackeson tomorrow, Billy; my daughter Ashley passed the idea on to me. Incidentally, we aren't going to Lewis this year, Billy.....just having a change and going to Yorkshire. Back to the Outer Hebrides next year. Our Joseph, try Tesco Caramelised Onion chutney on your sausages.....delicious!
