IO Earth
Date: 4th May 2019
Details:  Back by popular demand, presented by The Classic Rock Society

One of the most exciting progressive rock bands on the UK scene at the moment, IO Earth released their debut album back in 2009. Led by the creative axis of Dave Cureton (guitars) and Adam Gough (keyboards), the band have released four albums to increasingly popular acclaim, with second album Moments being followed by the double disc epic New World and finally their latest, the stunning conceptual work Solitude. Capable of shifting from driving, heavy riffs to gentle, reflective passages on the proverbial dime, the band are a model of contrasting delicacy and power.

Always at their best in the live environment, the band are currently fronted by their third singer, Birmingham native Rosanna LeFevre, and are sounding better than ever. The full line-up is Rosanna Lefevre (vocals), Dave Cureton (guitar), Adam Gough (keyboards), Jez King (violin, guitar), Luke Shingler (woodwind), CJ Jerromes (drums) and Christian Nokes (bass). Following on from their Citadel show last September, demand for a return has been overwhelming.

‘Support for this show will come from the highly rated Blackheart Orchestra, who impressed a lot of people as tour support to Hawkwind recently’

Luke Daniels & Rihab Azar
Date: 11th May 2019
Details:  Includes a short interview with Rihab Azar

Kaleidoscope Music Memes

Imagine being able to create your own musical pieces from ‘sound lego’ using your smart phone before sharing your ideas with professional musicians ahead of a planned live performance.

Luke Daniels the award winning and critically acclaimed folk musician and singer hosts a series of folk and world music concerts at Citadel St Helens that will make use of mobile technology to jointly create new music with audiences in the run up to each performance. Showcasing three world-class performers from Syria, China, South Africa via fortnightly duo concerts that culminate in a final full quartet performance.

Audiences from Citadel St Helens along with those from Met Bury, Atkinson Southport and Liverpool Philharmonic Hall will be able to create and share their own musical arrangements from a pool of prerecorded interlocking audio clips of each artist involved by downloading the ‘music memes’ mobile app to contribute towards the development of their final work.

The idea that the evolution of music which takes place over generations can be reproduced and sped up via modern mobile technology and social media will be central to this series of outstanding concerts.

The three-month project starts at the end of March with sixteen public performances featuring the most popular of their ‘memetically’ created works throughout May June via a specially formed consortium of four northwest venues.

Luke Daniels is a multi- instrumentalist specialising in button accordion and melodeon Luke has enjoyed a long career collaborating with a range of artists and organisations as a means of promoting folk music. Riverdance, London Jazz Festival, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Celtic Connections and English National Opera.

Rihab Azar is from the Syrian city of Homs. She studied at the Conservatoire of Damascus under such masters as Askar Ali Akbar and Issam Rafea. In 2014, She became the first woman oudist to perform accompanied by the Syrian National Orchestra for Arabic Music. Since moving to the UK in 2016 under the “Migrant Talent” scheme she has performed with the London Sinfonietta and at St. Paul’s Cathedral.
