The Jazz Planets

Details:  Opening night of Wigan's 34th International Jazz Festival.
Pete Long leads the Echoes of Ellington Orchestra through his arrangements of Holst's Planet Suite. This will be Pete's humorous but beautifully constructed tribute to two masters of music. There is also late night jazz from 11-1.00a.m. with Keith Rae trio free to those attending the earlier concert.

Wigan International Jazz Festival

Details:  The jazz festival is now owned,financed and delivered by The Music Continuum CIC which hopes to establish a solid base to ensure its continued high profile and international reputation as one of the leading festivals in Europe. We depend on the generosity of sponsors to assist us with this venture and any potential sponsors can contact Peter Fletcher 07848 818276 to discuss further.

The opening night of the 34th festival features Pete Long with the Echoes of Ellington Orchestra playing his own arrangements of Holst's Planets in the style of The Duke. This cd was voted the best jazz album of 2018 by the Sunday Times and has only been played live on a few occasions to date.
Pete is an old favourite of the Wigan festival and will bring his own brand of humour to pull the music together with a great band, to celebrate two great composers from different musical worlds.
Tickets are a bargain at £27.50
Start time 8.00p.m.
There is also late night jazz from 11-1.00a.m. with Keith Rae trio, free to those attending the earlier concert.
Venue:  Village on the Green at Aspull is the new home of the festival, providing a more intimate, night club feel to the gigs.
