Worthington Lake

Worthington Lake
Fishing
A shady spot on a Summer day
A lake of mirrored sky
A canny foe in water deep
And time passed quietly bye

Peace and quiet and time to ponder stuff that really doesn't matter at all .

I was watching some brown trout fry in Hic Bibi brook and realised that they could easily make their way into Worthington Lake , for although the stream runs naturally into the Yarrow , there is a man made diversion near the White Crow that syphons off some water which then enters the lake
via the by-wash .

Have any fishermen seen trout in here ?

If so , they could then enter the Douglas by the overflow in Arley Wood and then in a rather round about way meet up once more with their siblings where the two rivers meet at Croston .

Odd what you think about on a hot day sat on a bonny bank when nothing really matters at all .

Cheers Dennis Old Top .

I put the wrong camera on this photo.
It should be (Nikon D7500).

This is really one of your very best Dennis. I think you have out done yourself…it looks like an illusion as if the man is sat on a high cliff!

A peaceful scene, Dennis, with the clouds reflected in the water....I like your little poem too.

Poet, Hic-Bibi brook is a tributary of the Douglas, not the Yarrow. Isn't it eventually called Almond Brook, when it reaches Standish? I might be wrong.

To me it looks like a man who just wants an afternoon away from his wife.
Well that's what my husbands told me to say anyway.

You're right John Noakes . I stand corrected . Too much sun probably.

However , I don't think Almond Brook is connected to Hic Bibi , which begins life as Stars Brook and then becomes Bucknow Brook . I always thought it then flowed into Ellerbeck and then the Yarrow , but it seems it doesn't . I can't work out from the map how it gets to the Douglas .

Almond brook springs up behind Old Pepper Lane and reaches the Dougie by a separate route through Milldam / Elnup Wood . I think :-?

I tried fishing once and found it to be a bit like watching paint dry whilst being bitten by swarms of midges. See any rats Dennis, as accordingly this is another lake where rats have set up home, and feeding off the duck and bird food folks put down.

Tributaries according to Wikipedia, I wouldn't know where Hic-bibi brook ran to or where Almond brook ran to as I've never seen either.

When of this world I have had my fill
I yearn for the lake and the bobbing quill
For a quiet spot and the swish of a rod
Take me from my cares and nearer to God
