I remember going to Graham Fairhurst's where my mum hired the Telly from late 50's early 60's but have no recollection of a large lamp. Also used to go to the Carlton.

I can remember Mrs Massam's shop on corner of Tunstall Lane and Ormskirk Road, but I can't recall a really big lamp post being around there, the tram wires were held up on the lamp posts along Ormskirk Road, maybe it was one of them he meant as they were very tall and made from cast iron, there is a photo of Ormskirk Road showing these lamp posts with the tram wires attached on the Album somewhere. Here.

micky that view is looking towards Tunstall Lane, in the distance you can just about make out the Half-Way House pub.

I wonder if you are mistaken about it's whereabouts. I recall a large lamp in the road in Pemberton. It stood on Ormskirk road with White street on one side and Fleet street on the other.

This one also from Places in the Album shows a big lamp, but this is at the bottom end of the block in front of the Carnegie, could there have been another big lamp like this one up the top end of the block near to the Halfway House?
