pemberton masonic hall

Started by: GOLDEN BEAR (6556)

My sister went to a wake just last week which was held in the masonic hall, pemberton. She commented on how the place was very nice brother-in-law though said at £4.60 a pint it was bloody dear! back to my main point which my sis asked me was has this current M/HALL always been there or has it just been built and if so can anyone tell us where abouts was the original masonic hall situated???? we await any response.

The present Pemberton Masonic Hall was purposely built approx 30 years ago. Prior to this meetings were held above the shops in Fleet Street, Pemberton. Hope this helps.

Hi lindawarrior<<

Just past your info onto my sister and she will not accept the answer you have given. Her reason linda is that her and her husband feel that that building is not 30 years old so if you can supply further i would be very obliged .

I agree with Linda, the Masonic Hall has been there about 30 years, prior to that there were public toilets on that site.

It seems it has been there longer than 30 years.
This is from a 1976 map.

HI Golden Bear & Dodger
I've just checked with a friend of ours who has confirmed that Pemberton Masonic Hall was actually built in 1972 and extended in 1974. Apparently prior to this there was a blacksmiths and also England's butchers slaughterhouse on the site.
We knew it was at least 30 years old but couldn't recall exactly how old until our friend informed us. How time flies!

Yes, I did some work at Pemberton Masonic Hall in the 1980s.

Harry Fairhurst got me to do the work for them, he had a seed/plant/pet shop in Chapel St opposite to the Hall
I recall that he asked me not to charge them full price as they were low on money

Well i think that knocks it on the head now ,the reason i brought it up again lindawarrior was that my sis/b-law stated that the building didn't look that old.
But now with convincing proof via Dodger of whom i would like to thank for his endeavoursthe map is great so thanks goes to all and i cant wait to see sis/blaw.It just goes to show when one is stuck about anything Wiggin come onto

It is over 30 years since I went to a function in there, and the ale cost an arm and a leg then.

Dodger I don't recall toilets ever being on that site and I lived on and around Pem for along time. The only toilets I recall were near the Swan.

Dodger is correct about the toilets. As kids we used to call the toilets White city.

The Masonic hall was built by Robinson Bros , Kilshaw St Pembrrton , I worked on it as an apprentice bricklayer . A lad lost an eye on that job , cracking a piece of slate to put under a road form.
