New Shop?

This is next to the Brocket on Mesnes Road in Wigan.
It has taken many years to build and is finally coming to fruition!
Does anyone know what it will be? I've heard a little Asda but this could be a rumour?

Immigrant accommodation perhaps.?
Yes, it says here that 36 Mesnes Road will be an Asda Express.
It should do well because there are a lot of houses in that area, but no proper shops.
We could do with one up here in Shevington to compete with the expensive Co-op, but the trouble is we don't have any spare derelict land that could be used for any new builds.
I HAVEN'T SEEN THIS, BRIAN, AS I NEVER GO UP THAT WAY, BUT A LOT OF BUILDINGS THESE DAYS DO SEEM TO BE BUILT FOR PRACTICALITY RATHER THAN PRETTINESS!
It’s a fair walk from the town centre , I know because I once walked up there a few years ago to a place that made me some curtains. ( it took me a while to find it!)
The building certainly looks like it could be a store of sorts. It’s in very close proximity to the house nearby whether the neighbours are happy about that only they can say…it is if I remember a very sought after residential area.
I bet the Architect was up all night designing that box. He/she will probably get a medal. Good grief!
Irene, how thankful the young mums will be when they are just nipping out for a loaf of bread on a wet and windy night, and those practical glass doors slide open, allowing them to quickly push their prams inside to the bright, warm store.
These smaller shops are very handy and save a trip to the Supermarket. It's a 5 mile drive to the nearest shop for us - we live in a lovely little village, but no shop, pub, etc.
peebee correct what do you expect with the last lot and especially these lot its a joke what have these lot and these lot doing to this country i am in my 60s i am glad that time is coming i would not like to be here in the future to see what this country is going to be like.
I’ve aways thought events come full circle and now ‘corner’ shops are making a come- back but in the ‘square box’ design. I hope the neighbours are happy if it’s taken so long to build who knows?
There's been rumours of housing, hand car washing facility, a Morrison's, Sainsbury's, Tesco and now an Asda.
Across the road from here there is a convenience store and further up a newsagent, and for years they both had an agreement not to sell the others products. Then the convenience store changed hands and began to sell newspapers, so the newsagent then began to sell all manner of groceries and later became a convenience store, so if this becomes yet another convenience store, then a pricing war between all three stores shall ensue.
If so, you'll have to come along and bag the bargains.
Its pubs we need, not more shops!
Someone has told me it is A1 Foods, and according to the web they are an Italian Delicatessen and Restaurant company, if so, it is something different for those who like smelly cheese.
Mick, also according to the web there is a Morrison's Daily to open on Almond Brook Road, shall it be what was the Charnley Arms, I wonder, as Morrison's do now seem to be using pubs that have closed for their Daily Shops.

Hic !!!!!
It was originally a BP Petrol Station which closed down, and it was demolished, the underground storage tanks were removed etc.
It remained a derelict site for a few years, until about twenty years ago, when building work started, and I think it was going to be a convenience store, but several weeks into the project as they were digging the foundations, the work stopped abruptly, and it transpired that the workmen had discovered a stream running under the site, which was not supposed to be there, so that was the tale behind the work stopping.
At the time I remember a fella who was in his eighties asking me about what was going on there, and when I told him about the stream, he laughed and said "I could have told them about that", I remember that stream being there when I was a lad.
