As a member we get a very good and informative news letter every month, below is an extract from this months can anyone on wigan world add any more information on this article.

personally I can't see this as being true as it is quite a distance but they did build follies all around the Hall so who knows.

any info would be appreciated




In his book The Wigan Century The History of Wigan Golf Club 1898 t0 1998 Jack Winstanley refers to an underground passage running from Arley Hall to Blackrod Church. This rather intrigued me so I decided to do some research with a view to finding out whether this was possible. My starting point was to see if I could find anywhere from which the tunnel could reasonably start. I’d been down in the cellars previously and knew that parts of them are bricked up so I decided that looking for drawings of the building could be a great help.
The Archive Room seemed to be the obvious place to look. I found a number of drawings but I couldn’t locate any at all which showed the cellars.
