Marie. We love going to Dunham Massey.
There is a Hall which is well worth a visit, it was used as a hospital in WW1, they recreated it as a hospital a couple of years ago.
There are formal gardens which are lovely to walk round, and a deer park.
The house and gardens are expensive, £7 to park and £10 to go in the gardens, the deer park thankfully is free.
We are National Trust members, so get to park and go in the gardens and hall for free.
It is in Cheshire, the nearest town of any size is Altrincham.
We usually go via the M60 orbital motorway anti-clockwise and come off just before Barton High Level Bridge.
You the pick up the A57 towards Warrington and turn left over Warburton Toll Bridge.
Then there is a convoluted drive through the back lanes, you would need a map, it’s too complicated to describe.
The journey is about 45 minutes from Westhoughton.
It might be worth considering joining the National Trust, current ‘Joint Membership’ (man and wife) is £120 per annum or £10 per month.
