Yes, lots of places, the metalled road surface which appeared later, was laid over the top of the setts. The 'metal' frequently did not extend to the kerb, leaving a couple of lines of setts exposed kerb-side. I guess because drain gratings and the like had been built flush with the upper surface of those setts.
