Hobbies / Books (Gardening, walking, books, films, theatre etc.)
Mac,
the visit is just about wrapped up, quite successful from the things that I wanted to do plus managed to achieve one or two extra things.
I arrived last Sunday at 12:25pm courtesy of Richard Branson and went directly to the Subscription Bowling club where Ken H. the family friend I was staying with had a most interesting function organized ( NOT for my benefit I might add ) that included several ex Wigan R L players who regaled us with tales from the 1965 Cup match against Hunslet. Several most helpful people at the History shop and at the Bereavement Services office helped me to trace the whereabouts of my maternal Grandparents graves. Thank you all concerned.
Caught up with my cousin Jim, we worked out our last time together was around 1958. The Brockett didn't stay open long enough for us to finish the chat.
A couple of downsides, it's time someone felled the trees etc in some of the roof gutters around town don't you think before they do any more damage.
Went on the Cumbrian mountain railtour on Wed. Galatea disgraced herself by topping Shap at a paltry 12mph. I know because the man sitting opposite was timing it between 1/4 mile posts all the way up to Carlisle!!!!! AAaaarrrrgh talked incessantly from Crewe , took a breath between Warrington and Wigan and I though another near Preston. Such dedication currently in Harrogate but heading for Cardiff via Wigan tomorrow.
I wasn't going to mention the weather but............
