The concept of Cassandra

Cassandra, also known as Alexandra

Origins in Greek mythology. Cassandra was a daughter of Priam, the King of Troy. Struck by her beauty, Apollo provided her with the gift of prophecy, but when Cassandra refused Apollo's romantic advances, he placed a curse ensuring that nobody would believe her warnings.

After the sack of Troy Cassandra was awarded to the Greek commander Agamemnon as his concubine, but on their return to Mycenae she was murdered by his wife Clytemnestra. 

So term is employed to refer to one who issues warnings, and they are ignored, but prove to be correct.

I recall a UK journalist employed the nom de plume 'Cassandra', although I think time was to reveal this person as more "The Boy Who Cried Wolf"!
