Don GB,
I am sure that you know, and many people who are very interested in soccer, this, all too well: It comes down to money.
So, I agree with what you said.
I have held conversation with many men outside of the UK and a high percentage of them said virtually the same and it was to do with earning a load of money when you play for one of the top teams in the English 'Premier League'. To many soccer fans around the World, the 'big money' is in the 'Premier League'.
Good example:
- Sergio Aguero moved to the Premier League club Manchester City in July 2011 for a reported fee in the region of £35 million
Previously, Sergio Aguero was earning €5 million a year with Atletico Madrid. Sergio quickly became a superstar at Manchester City and increased his wages to approximately €12.7 (about eleven) million a year.
What is it that people say? Money talks!

Personally speaking, I think that soccer player's wages (the ones we are talking about) should be vastly reduced and transfer fees should be scrapped. Let's get back to the sport and equal opportunities, not to soccer being a business adventure where 'big money' can be made and a small percentage of teams dominate. Additionally, small clubs have no chance and with some of them facing bankruptcy - if not already gone through bankruptcy - I believe that it is time for a change.
