My sister has sent me your website. Our mother was also at Billinge with her sister. Their names were MARY and HELEN HAYES. They were from Liverpool and were sent there when my mum was 3 and my Aunt Helen was 8, that was about 1937 until 1945. My aunt left at 16 to become a nurse and my mum went to live with her mother in Rainhill. I remember my mum saying the nuns were very cruel. They both hated it there. I would love to find any records or find anyone who remembers my mum or aunt. My mum died in 2002 would have been 76 now and my aunt Helen would have been 81. My sister and I visited last year and was shown around the house. There are some pictures on the wall showing what it was like in those days - the beds were back to back and we were told recreation meant sitting with your finger on your mouth.
