Places   (Help with places, streets and buildings in Wigan.)

This is a true story that has now been aroused by the sheer mention of the old pub. I remember in my hippy days back in 74, I took my girlfriend (to soon become wife) there for a drink. I ordered and the barmaid looked over my shoulder. I indicated that I was in fact the next person in line... but she informed me that she had to speak to the manager. Eventually he appeared and advised that he couldn't serve me. I asked why and he suggested that I knew why. Maybe he had mistook me for someone similar who was a trouble maker... but no, after much discussion he advised that my attire wasn't suitable. I asked if I returned home and put a suit and tie on he would I be served. He was a bit reluctant but said maybe. I don't think it was just my clothes but more the length of my hair,
I gave him a look that that he probably didn't forget, then took my girlfriend on a long walk to the (then rather posh) Cherry Gardens where despite alternative clothing and lifestyles the staff were wonderfully accommodating.
In conclusion, I am happy of the prospective reinvention, but have ignored the place since the 70s. Hope the new management are more inclusive than they were back then.
But best wishes!
