Came across some old diaries belonging to a Mr Samuel Smith who I think was an Electrical Engineer for the N.C.B. One entry on 13 Jan 1968 reads called outt to Golborne at 7.15am.Main fan OCB had"blown up" injuring the electrician who was stopping the fan.Brush engineers brought on site.New OCB provided and commenced installation. The entry for14Jan 1968 reads Golborne all day.Fan running 9.15pm on load.Proved to be methane explosion.Methane percolated into switch via cable duct.I wonder if anyone remembers this incident from nearly 50 years ago?
