Places   (Help with places, streets and buildings in Wigan.)

Whups, I know who you mean now. John Massey. Aye he came from Adlington originally, had a farming background. He bought an old cottage next to the canal at Red Rock,Haigh. Did it up, a lot of the work on his own. He came as a linesman with us, the surveyors, and we were going to get him on a course to be a surveying assistant. He was a bright lad and would have done okay but he developed some sort of problem with his inner ear which stopped him going down the pit due to the air pressure changes. He went into the medical center and trained as a medic and as far as I'm aware stayed till the pit shut.
