I don't mind making my own bread, but it is a time consuming process. I cannot quickly produce decent bread when unable to buy a loaf.
I even have a bread machine to automate much of process, and it is overall slightly quicker, but:

Machine's standard bread cycle is 3 hours and forty mins.
Say 20 mins to set up and charge the machine.
One hour (minimum) for bread to cool sufficient to slice.

So, has to be started at least FIVE hours before intended time to eat.

I can always make 'damper' instead, but it is not as satisfying. (Soda Bread)

When I lived in Manchester, I knew a Master Baker. His bread was so popular that queues formed outside his shop as bread became available. His son did not want to take on the business when dad retired. Who wants to have to start work at 4-00 am every morning.
