For me we're less inclined to celebrate our ‘national day’ in the way in which the Irish, Welsh and Scots celebrate theirs as we have never been oppressed in the way that they all were; mostly by the English I hasten to add. Neither do we feel that another country is dominating us and therefore feel the need to be fiercely protective of our heritage and language.

And of course we don’t have a thick black stout brewery or a whiskey distillery marketing the day for us.
