Well I don't think that the people of this country are 'spilt' over the asylum seeker issue, the number of people who are in favour of allowing literally anyone to come into this country is likely to be very small, probably in the thousands, and also probably made up mainly of human rights lawyers, and other people who make a financial gain from asylum seekers.

Politically though, Boris Johnson and Priti Patel know that if they stop the asylum seekers from coming across the Channel, then politically, it won't do them any harm at all, it will be a vote winner, so it is in their interests to get on top of the problem.

And it would be exactly the same if Labour were in power, it would be in their interests to stop the asylum seekers coming over here, and gaffer has explained why the asylum seekers want to come here.
