I went to St Oswald (now school place) in Ashton and can remember being hit by the nun using a plimsole and my mother going into school to complain because I had red marks on my body days after the event. After we moved we went to Our Ladies and after a run in with the Priest(father O'rouke) we stopped going to mass. Led to believe he liked a tipple or too just like the Vicar at Holy Trinity. I only go to church for weddings/funerals. Neither of my grandsons have been christened and I have never questioned my son or is wife about it.
