On about the Standish Village thing, I cannot comment on Tonkers behalf, but in my opinion just because someone who works for Wigan Council decides to call Standish a village, that doesn't make it a village.

Historically

Standish was given township status in the Middle Ages, and it merged with Langtree to become Standish-with-Langtree Urban District of Lancashire, which it was until 1974 when Wigan Metro was created.

That means it had and has the same status as Hindley and Ashton in Makerfield, so I would tend to agree that Standish is probably a town, but I am not 100% sure
